Chrissa Stands Strong, an American Girl Movie
I recently watched HBO's An American Girl: Chrissa Stands Strong, with my ten-year-old daughter Amanda.
This is the first time that a full-length movie has been produced in conjunction with the release of the Girl of the Year doll. Like all the other American Girl characters, Chrissa is a bright and beautiful ten-year-old girl.
When her family moves in with her recently widowed grandmother, Chrissa has to start a new school mid-year. From her first day at school, she is faced with the snide remarks and mean actions from a trio of Mean Girls.
She tries befriending another girl Gwen who seems like she needs a friend, but even this girl who is also bullied refuses Chrissa's friendly advances.
One of the Mean Girls seems to be willing to break away from the pack, and when Chrissa finds out Gwen's secret, she's open to friendship too, so soon Chrissa has found a few allies, but her problems with the Mean Girls aren't so quickly resolved.
As usual, American Girl has created family-friendly entertainment that is relevant to young girls which helps them deal with issues that they face when they are growing up. If you watch it along with your daughter, as I did, it's also a great way to open the doors to communication about friendship, changes, bullying and more.
An American Girl: Chrissa Stands Strong premiered on HBO January 5, and on January 6 it was available everywhere DVDs are sold for a retail price of $24.98.

Oh my goodness….This would be PERFECT for my children. We are moving in April from Massachusettes to Gorgia. My kids will be transfering schools mid/late year.
