I got lucky.
Erica was slated to review UP!, but it accidentally got shipped to me instead. I had really wanted to see UP! in the theaters, but time just flew by, (pardon the pun,) and I didn’t get to it.
When Jackson arrived home from school yesterday, I said, “Guess what arrived in the mail today? UP!“
He hooted with excitement, jumping up and down, begging, “Can we watch it right now?!?”
So I popped some popcorn and Jackson, Olivia and I sat down for a mid-week movie treat. And what a treat it was!
UP! is another Disney•Pixar masterpiece, weaving brilliant storytelling with incredible animation and laugh out loud humor that appeals to all ages.
Jackson roared with laughter during UP!, but he also was moved by the touching story of Carl Fredricksen, a retired balloon salesman, grieving over the loss of his beloved wife and their unrealized dreams of adventure.
Russel, an overeager eight year wanna-be Wilderness Explorer accidentally ends up coming along for the ride as Carl sets his house sailing through the skies to finally visit Paradise Falls in South America.
UP! has all it viewers, old and young, soaring right along with Carl and Russell, growing, laughing and learning that “sometimes life’s biggest adventures aren’t the ones you set out looking for.”
The making of animated movies fascinates me.
In UP!, I especially love eight year old Russell. Here is a video clip with director Pete Docter showing how he helped first time actor Jordan Nagai “become” Russell.
On November 10, 2009, UP! will be available in a Four-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack, and a Two-Disc DVD, which both include DisneyFile, a digital copy of the movie that can be viewed on an array of electronic devices, as well as a ton of fun bonus features.

The thing I loved about this movie is that it has universal appeal. Adults love it (well, at least I did) because we can empathize with the characters and the children love it because of the action and the talking dog and the house that floats with balloons and so many other reasons!

I just watched this movie last night and… don’t laugh, but the beginning of the movie made me cry. It was so sad… but a happy ending. GREAT movie!
