Wizards of Waverly Place CD
If your TV is ever tuned into the Disney channel, you know that the Wizards of Waverly Place movie premieres on the Disney channel this weekend. We've been bombarded with promotions and previewes all summer long, and I have to admit, it's working. We're pretty excited about it (me the Mom, my tween daughter, and yes — my five-year-old son).
Earlier this month the Wizards of Waverly Place CD came out. It features three songs from the movie, and others from and "inspired by" the TV show including the theme song, of course. All the Disney stars are featured, including Selena Gomez, Mitchel Musso, Raven-Symone, and Aly & AJ.
A few are original songs, but most are covers — all "Magic" themed — including three different songs all called "Magic." This probably isn't the best musical arrangement you'll ever listen to, but I loved the "Magic" gimmick, and I love that these are songs that I knew (and that my parents introduced to me, even). The covers are hits from the 60's, 70's, and 80's that were originally performed by Electric Light Orchestra, Steppenwolf, the Cars, America, the Police, the Lovin' Spoonful, and Olivia Newton-John to name a few!
I love that I can sneak "real music" into my kids' line-up. If I can get them to appreciate Mitchel Musso's cover of "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" maybe I can play some other Police tunes as well on down the road.

This show is a family favorite at our house. We really enjoyed the movie that they reacently showed where they take the family to Hawaii. I have downloaded several of the shows songs for my kids.
