Who remembers their first McDonald’s Happy Meal? The little box with the games and puzzles on it, the little “M” for the handle, their first “collectible” toy. Then the dilemma was, do you open the toy? or do you leave it in plastic?
McDonald’s is inviting you, the readers at 5 Minutes for Mom to be a part of the family-fun and excitement this summer, as they celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the first Ronald McDonald House and kick-off the 30th Birthday of the iconic Happy Meal!
Thirty-five years ago, the first Ronald McDonald House opened its doors in Philadelphia to help children and families in need. To honor this milestone, McDonald’s and Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) are inviting you to share inspirational stories of how you, or someone you know, have been impacted by RMHC through the “Share.Give.Hope.” campaign.
To participate, visit www.rmhc.org/stories to share and read personal accounts of hope and inspiration; RMHC and McDonald’s will feature one of the stories submitted online in a national print advertising campaign for RMHC.
We also invite you to help us celebrate Happy Meal’s 30th birthday with a search to find the “Happiest Cities for Families” in America. Check out the new Happy Meal Birthday website, where you can test your Happy Meal knowledge and download resources to create the ultimate birthday party. In July, McDonald’s threw a birthday celebration in the “Happiest City for Families,” and announced that, in honor of the 30th Birthday of the Happy Meal, McDonald’s was bringing back one of its most popular Happy Meal toys ever – Ty® Teenie Beanie Babies® plush toys. Now through August 13, customers will receive one of 30 different Teenie Beanie Babies with their Happy Meal purchase.
McDonald’s sent a complete set of the new 30th Birthday Ty® Teenie Beanie Babies® plush toys and it took me right back to my childhood. I had collected the entire original set as a kid, and I know I have them in a tub, in the garage… I still can not believe that the Happy Meal is 30 Years Old.
McDonalds is giving us the opportunity to give one lucky winner an entire set of the 30th Birthday Ty® Teenie Beanie Babies® plush toys! All you need to do is leave a comment to enter!
And don’t forget – you can get extra entries in our giveaways… If you already subscribe to our newsletter and/or our RSS feed and/or have our button on your site, you qualify for additional entries. My grandsons love McDonald’s Happy Meals!
It was hard, but over the years I have given all my Beanie Babies away to little ones. No Happy Meals when I was little, but I remember as an adult getting two cheeseburger Happy Meals, one with orange juice and one with milk, just so I could get the Ty Beanie Babies and Fischer-Price toddler toys. For a little while I could get baby carrots instead of fries at some Mickey D’s. I think if I got Happy Meals it now I would get apple dippers instead of the fries.

Quick story, when my dd was 3 or 4 my dad (Poppa) was driving her and I to NC from MI to visit with him and she wanted beanies they had in Happy Meals at the time. He stopped at every McDonalds along the way to build up her collection. We lost Poppa 5 years ago and now I have a 4 year old dd who wants all the beanies and I’m sure if Poppa were here, he would do the same thing for her!

I remember having an astrosnik(not sure if spelling is correct) collection and my favorite was having 20+ frozen hamburgers so I could get all the beanie babies. I was adult then and I still have them. Please enter me for my grandchildren
