Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner – Backyard Grilling Prize Pack

There is no better summer activity than firing up the grill, tossing on a few well cut meats and enjoying hearty laughter with a few dear friends. Honestly, what would summer be without the smell of brats, steaks and burgers permeating the air? If we could somehow eradicate mosquitoes, it would be perfection.

If you’re anything like me, you may tend to just toss your meat on the grill without any real knowledge of how to best marinate, cook and serve it. But there are a few great tricks that you can use to ensure that you come out with a spectacularly grilled piece of meat every time you barbecue.

The best resource of all and the first place to start is – BeefItsWhatsForDinner.com. This website is filled to the brim with the latest tools and tips for cooking with beef. You can find demonstration videos, recipes, tips on shopping for beef including types of cuts and understanding the label, summer grilling tips, healthy grilling tips and MUCH MORE. Good grief, I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!

You also need great tools. You need thermometers and timers – tools that let you know when your meat is done cooking.

And don’t forget the serving platters because the presentation is everything, is it not? A beautiful piece of meat served on a lovely tray and surrounded by mouthwatering sauces tastes just a little better, don’t you think?

Once you visit BeefItsWhatsForDinner.com, you are going to be ready to run outside, turn on your grill, and get cooking. So, National Cattleman’s Association, the folks behind Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner, is here to offer you the perfect backyard grilling package worth over $250.00!

The grilling package includes:

  • Crate and Barrel BBQ Serving Set with Tools
  • BBQ Safe Instant Read Thermometer
  • Basting Brush
  • The Healthy Beef Cookbook
  • Beef It’s What’s For Dinner Apron
  • Bamboo Picks
  • Mini Thermometer
  • Food Tent
  • Meat Markers
  • BBQ Mitt
  • Burger Press
  • $100 Gift Card for Beef

To enter to win, simply leave us a comment telling us about your best grilling moment. It can be a recipe you used, a memory you have, or about the time that you engulfed your head in flames because you sprayed too much lighter fluid onto a charcoal grill (that actually happened to my husband before we were married…two days before we had engagement pictures taken. His singed eyelashes and eyebrows are forever immortalized on film!)

Of course, you will receive additional entries if you subscribe to our Feed, sign up for our 5M4M Newsletter, add our 5M4Giveaways button in your sidebar, write a post and link back to this contest on your blog, and spread the word via Facebook, Twitter, or email! So, go ahead and leave an extra comment for each one of those you do. :)

This giveaway is open to US shipping addresses only and will end on Friday, July 10th. We will post our winner on Saturday, July 11th.

Yes, there is nothing that says summer like a sizzling steak hot off the grill. Is your mouth watering yet?

What about now?

I love steak! My best memories of grilling were when I was a kid and my dad would “make” dinner. Really all he did was grill the meat and my mom would do all the rest of the work, but she always made it seem like it was dad’s meal and praised him to high heaven!

This is amazing! My best grilling moment was when I made shrimp & veggie kabobs with my husband for a BYO cookout — neither of us had ever made kabobs before and they turned out AMAZING!

My favorite grilling memory actually just happened a month or so ago. My dad started the charcoal chimney starter and then went inside to do something. Shortly after my mom and I noticed that it wasn’t smoking anymore and we realized the flame had died out. It took us about 10 minutes to get the flame going again. We had a good laugh and enjoyed the moment.

Cheeseburgers in Paradise! One of the biggest things we look forward to in the summer is going to my parents backyard oasis complete with a cantina, pool, beach, music and the guarantee of big cheeseburgers on the grill in the afternoon. Nothing beats a big juicy cheeseburger after a morning of swimming and playing in the sun.

I love having my Hubby grill! Not only does it save me from having to cook, but grilled food is so yummy! I’m not sure about a favorite grilling moment, since I’m too scared to go anywhere near a grill for fear of blowing up something, but I made kabobs for a birthday party a few weeks ago for Hubby to grill and they were soooo yummy!

I love to grill out all year round. That sound okay to some of you but we live here in Ohio and yes I have gone out, brushed the snow off the grill and turned it on. I refuse to cook steaks and hamburgers in the house, it’s just not right to cook those 2 things inside. This prize pack would be wonderful for ME:)

    Mmmmm grilling! My favorite!

I married the meat and potato’s guy and then gave birth to his caveman child and some chicks too.
They love anything cooked on the grill.
There’s nothing like homemade hamburgers fresh off the grill.

We can’t grill through the snowy season here in Indiana but when it’s warm….we cook outside as much as possible.

    A fond memory?

Teaching my oldest to grill. He wanted a hamburger so badly…..and wanted to do it himself. We pattied up the meat and to the fire we went. HE loved it! I think that will be the first gift I give him when he moves into his own place. A grill! (he’s heading to college in the fall)

We had an old grill that was tricky to get lit….my husband wrestled with it till he broke a sweat, closing the lid and taking a break before he lost his cool. About 10 minutes later he came back to the grill and tried to light it a few more times, forgetting that the grill lid was down, and it had been filling with gas the entire time….

when it finally lit, a loud explosion blew the grill lid about 20 feet in the air before it landed in the back yard!

    We got a new grill!

My best grilling memory was actually a couple of weeks ago. My husband likes everything WELL done and I prefer medium – medium well. Needless to say my steaks are not his concern and usually turn out well done, too. But a couple of weeks ago, he figured it out! It was fantastic! (He’s repeated it since then, so I know it’s not a fluke – ha!)

My best memory is my husband having a hard time getting the coals lit in the smoker. He thought they were still cold, opened the door just as a gust of wind blew the fire and heat right at him. Bye bye eyebrows and arm hair. He was completely uninjured, just embarrassed. We were hosting my son’s birthday party a few hours later!

My first grill was one of those 18″x24″ tabletop ones… and the first time I went to go use it, a carload of us went to a state park, bringing along charcoal, hotdogs, buns, condiments, etc… everything except a lighter or matches.

We did get it lit, using the car cigarette lighter, some dried grasses and some tiny twigs. It was very “Survivor” of us, I thought.

My favorite grilling moment was about 2 years ago. Hubby was grilling burgers and our son (at that time 4 1/2 years old) a huge Spongebob fan asked if he could help make some “Krabby Patties”. Hubby didn’t want him to get hurt near the grill so he told him thanks for offering to help, but it was a job for an adult and he could help fix the “Krabby Patties” up after they cook and help serve them. Our son was happy with that and was so cute while helping.

Everytime I think of grilling out- it always makes me think of the BBQ pit my dad built in our backyard when I was about 8 or 9. He built it all out of bricks and was able to put a screen/rack in it and we piled up the charcoal underneath it. But he put so much blood, sweat and tears into that, just so we could have a nice BBQ ( money was tight and we couldnt afford a new grill when our old one broke).
I was lucky to have a really great dad!

Amazing giveaway! My fave grilling moment was the time we loaded everything in our truck and drove 2 hours to the mountains. As soon as my hubby started the charcoal grill, it started raining. He valiantly tried to keep grilling while the rest of us huddled under blankets, but we finally gave up and headed to the truck. Of course, as soon as we got there, the rain magically stopped. Good times.

A few years ago my husband discovered how to make the yummiest grilled hamburgers. You make the meat like you’re making your favorite meatloaf and then form them into patties. They are now a huge hit with everyone we know! I didn’t have the money to get much for hubby for Father’s Day. I’d love to win this for him! Thanks!

The funniest story about grilling is from when I was a kid. My family and I went on vacation with my parents best friends and their family (all the kids similar in age, so we had a blast). We stayed in cabins that had outdoor charcoal grills. We got everything ready to grill, and they (the adults) realized no one packed matches. So D (the other dad) figured he could use the lighter out of his van. He lit it then went running across the lawn with it to light the grill…all the while yelling “Ouch ouch ouch”. He was burning his leg hairs the whole way there. LOL. We still love telling that story.

We (hubbie and I)both came from the farm, so ‘where’s the beef’ is really where it is at for us.
My favorite memory is my dad grilling steaks in the summer. A farmer NEVER cooks, that’s woman’s work. However, he did do the grilling. He’d soak the coals overnight and light it up with a bang! when it lit. We didn’t have charcoal lighter fluid back then, so it was either gasoline or diesel fuel. Oh, the taste was a ‘melt in your mouth’ flavor that couldn’t be beat. We had homegrown cornfed beef, not the store stuff of today. And it does make difference.
    Please enter me. Thanks.

This wasn’t my best grilling experience but it’s the reason my husband does all our grilling is I come close to blowing up the side of the house!! : ( Our ignitor button quick working so i had watched my husband light a piece of paper and stick it down to the burner after he turned the gas on and i’m not sure what step i done wrong but there was a loud boom and my daughter flew the door open and ask me if i was alright and thankfully i was except from the scorched hair on my arms smelt pretty bad and my nerves a little jolted LoL my husband loves cooking on the grill and even though we have a new grill with the working button on it he still will not let me light it, he cooks the best steak and i make the onion and garlic topping that is delish!!! (saute’ onion and garlic in olive oil when brown add 2 tbsp. soy sauce couple drops of hot sauce and 2 tbsp. 2 tbsp. Italian dressing and 1 tsp. sugar cook another couple on min then spread it on the steaks) my husband would love to win this!!! so would I : )

The best grilling moment is when someone other than myself or my husband takes over the grill for a few moments. Usually it is the two of us doing a lot of the work (which is great because we can monitor the food) but it does have a tendency to be a bit hot especially during the Midwestern humid summers.
But we love steak and burgers and brats so each time we use the grill it is going to be a wonderful taste sensation.

Using sheets of aluminum foil, place mixture enough for individual servings. Add a Tblsp. or so of beer or water and a few cubes of butter. Seal packets and grill till tender. DELICIOUS!

The best grilling moment at my mom’s was when we finally convinced her to marinate the meat before she put in on the grill (this took 5+ years). At our house our best moment is when we have steaks and shrimp kabobs on the main grill and ribs and brisket in the smoker. This also means we’re in the middle of a party, which we need more of, now that it’s summer here!

My best grilling moment is actually when we first moved into our new house from Connecticut to Florida and had entered a sweepstakes at the local grocery store and WON a new grill!! Our house was a mess – boxes everywhere, the movers delivered stuff on our 7th wedding anniversary, so we couldn’t even celebrate properly, but I could make steaks on the grill, which we ate off paper plates with serving utensils (because I forgot to buy plastic) and champagne. It really was sweet and I’ll remember it always.

I remember my husband coming home very tired so I let him go upstairs and take a nap and decided to suprise him will perfectly grilled burgers.
Not being a regular “grill-er” I didn’t anticipate the smoke and extra flames that would rise when the fat dropped down in to the coals.
I freaked and panicked and ran upstairs waking him telling everything was on fire.

I remember my dad grilling back in the 50s. We had a charcoal grill where there were racks that held the meat and they hung on the sides – sort of looked like a toaster! Great food – great memories.

My favorite grilling time was years ago. My parents and us three kids went for a Sunday picnic at a campground near a lake. Not having much money, we were having fried potatoes cooked on the grill as our meal. It started pouring down the rain, so we all sat in the car while my dad ran back and forth to the campfire to check the potatoes holding a newspaper over his head, and we’d all giggle the whole time. To this day I still smile when I think of that – sometimes the simplest things in life are the most memorable!

Hmmmm . . I can’t say that we really have a great grilling story – no singed eyebrows~! Our event inevitably seems to lead to the discovery that we are out of propane at least once a season – and my hubby has to race to the gas station while the meat is half cooked on the barbecue. But, the best thing about our barbecue is our secret marinade . . .I drool thinking about it!

Once on a group camping trip, someone borrowed our tabletop grill and for some strange reason, set it on top of one of those built-in grills they have at parks. They put the charcoal in the built in grill and the meat on top of our grill…don’t ask why, lol. Anyways, the charcoal left a film allover the outside of our grill, and when we went to use it that night, it burst into flames!! Luckily we put out the blaze quickly, but it was a funny moment later to discover what a goofy thing they did!

A dear friend of ours is an avid hunter. But he always complains he can never get his deer steaks to be juicy off the grill.
They came over for a cookout one day and had marinated their deer steaks. I threw them on the grill and got them to a great temperature. He went to carve it open to see if it was done and I said NO!!! Don’t cut it.. it let’s all the juices out. I used my meat thermometer and tested it. I pulled it off the grill, let it sit a couple minutes then we sat down to eat.
They were nice and juicy. He was SOOO excited that he had finally learned how to cook his meat.

NEVER CUT Your meat open while cooking!!

My funniest grilling moment was about 2 weeks ago. My son, 12, wanted to help with the grill, I have never let him near it before now….but. I told him he could watch the meat and was very careful about showing him how to handle opening the grill and not to flip any meat, I would handle the flipping.
All of a sudden I heard a yelp and my darling son was battling the flames with help from his dad….with water guns! ACK!! But it was funny and the meat was good.

We use our grill all year long, but use it to the extreme during the warmer months. One of my favorite meals on the grill is london broil that we marinate in italian salad dressing overnight. The steak gets such a wonderful flavor. I also love roasted potatoes, that we make from red potatoes. We cut them into chunks, season them, sprinkle with a little olive oil and place them in a foil pan. We then place the pan on the grill and let them roast. Delish!

My best grilling moment was really my worst. I bought some nice steaks, grilled them up. Everyone was sitting down waiting for their food. I put the steaks in one of those tin throwaways and started walking and they tipped out from the weight. My dog ran over and started biting at the food so it was a complete waste. But the best part was that we still laugh about it all this time later.

Why do men think that they are the only ones that can grill? It amazes me. I am the cook in the house, yet every time I say I am going to grill, I here “you can’t do that..let me!” Every time I grill is my favorite moment, because it’s ALWAYS the same. I sneak outside and get the grill all ready. My husband begins bickering at me that I can’t grill, or I don’t know how to do it. I always remind him that I do ALL the cooking in our house, and I think I can manage. I slave away and he checks on me every 5 minutes, while giving me this weary look. After everyone sits down, our 3 children always comment that my grilling is much better and tastier than his. He always grumbles, and it’s the same every time, until hours after dinner he admits that my food came out pretty darn good (just not as good as his).

My best grilling moment was actually just the other day! My husband is in the military and has been away for 17 months – we love to grill, but his huge gas grill is a little intimidating!! So, I bought a much smaller charcoal grill – perfect for my four year old and “mommy” and we grilled chicken with rosemary and veggies – it was great and I was proud of my new charcoal skills – haha! :)

We love having BBQ and sharing memories with friends and family. We usually do BBQ for memorial day, 4th of July, or Summer FUN! While my husband and I were dating we had a BBQ with my family and I hate cutting my own meat so I asked my husband can you cut my meat for me? He said, YES!! My dad was so surprised and he said, She already has you trained. :)

I love beef. My funniest memory of grilling is when my dad got his first propane griller. He gave us all a lecture on the safety measures etc. Then he turned around turned on the grill with the lid down, we tried to warn him he hushed ua, lifted the lid to put the meat on and burned off his eyebrows. As soon as we were sure he wasn’t hurt we laughed our heads off. He finely read the instruction booklet and until he passed away we enjoyed many wonderful meals on that grill

My in-laws had just gotten a small gas grill, and we were over for memorial day. It was like 1 and no one had eaten. We were supposed to go to a friends house around 3 and we felt so bad about leaving we practically forced them to light up the new grill and we had burgers and hot dogs. At 3 we left for our friends, stopped at the store to pick up something to drink and arrived at a surprise BBQ in our honor (we were moving away that month) All our family was there. Everyone knew but us, so they just ate the burgers and hot dogs to keep us form gettign suspicious!

My favorite grilling moment occured when my husband and I bought a brand new weber grill for our house and then realized it would never fit in our honda civic. The store owner, (we bought it at a local shop), asked one of her employees to drop it in a truck and drop it off at our house. It was such a sweet gesture and we were so thankful that we didn’t have to rent a truck just to bring it home.

We’re die-hard BBW’ers, so we even BBQ in the winter! And yes, there was snow on the ground. lol! Well…. one winter, we were having a get-together with family and we were BBQ’ing some very expensive steaks. Normally, my husband handles all the BBQ’ing, but he had a really bad cold; so I decided to “man” the grill and felt confident I had everything under control. lol! I got a little heavy-handed with the lighter fluid stuff. The steaks were halfway cooked and a BIG fire started and the steaks caught on fire!!!!!!
I knew my husband always had his trusty water spray bottle nearby, but I didn’t have it ‘nearby’ and couldn’t find it!!! lol! So when I couldn’t stop the fire with my hands by fanning at it , I didn’t know what else to do, so I used the long spear-like fork thingy and threw each steak into the snow!!!! Family started charging out of the house when they heard me yelling, and the yelling got worse when they saw me throwing expensive and delicious steaks into the snow!!! rofl! Needless to say, we had a very scrumptious, yet empty, dinner with lots of side dishes and desserts, but no MEAT!!! lmbo!! I was so embarrassed, but I couldn’t stop laughing either, which made everyone else laugh!! lol! Thank you for this great contest!

my son takes after his parents…old skool carnivore. we LOVE beef. we received our grill through Freecycle…it works, and we love it! The best thing about grilling is it keeps the heat out of the house, so our fan or air conditioning don’t have to work quite as hard to keep the 90 degree temperatures at something a little more tolerable.

there’s NOTHING as scrumptious as the smoky taste of salted, peppered, and buttered ribeye right off the grill…medium-rare. OH YES!

my first attempt to grill tiger shrimp: i lined them up in squadrons of 5×10, flipped them every two minutes with a 15 second top closing followed by sauce basting…success!

My best grilling receipe is actually my son’s ‘secret kabob’s’. He won’t tell anyone what’s in the mix but we do know that it involves several marinades, overnight, of course. Whatever it is, it’s totally AWESOME!! God’s Blessings to all….

    My husband always made the burgers..I was a bit squemish about touching the raw hamburger…well I decided to have a barbque for my sons bday & my hubby decided not to show up…needless to say, I made the burgers with two plastic bags on my hands, unfortunately did not pack them tight enough & I put them on the grill with all these parents I barely knew & basically they just crumbled & fell apart…not my best memory ;{

My best grilling moment has to be BBQ’s in mom and dads backyard! My dad drives truck and in the summer something special always seemed to be falling off, whether that be steak from Black Angus, Burgers from the Marriott, or Ribs from Black Angus! We got lucky and always looked forward to the surprise of what fell off Dad’s Truck! Not only was it a delicious surprise but fun to just be outside hanging with the family! This would be such a great family treat!

We bought some filet mignons from Costco and since they are so thick and hard to cook without burning some part of the steaks we filleted them and they were so delicious and they don’t burn when cooked that way. great giveway by the way.

I can eat everything he cooks there, and NOTHING cooked over charcoal…He likes to surprise me with an entire dinner cooked on the gas grill, from meet and potatoes to grilled corn on the cob and even a dessert. I don’t think I have a best grilling “moment” more like a memory. My family always had 4th of July bbqs at my Aunt’s back in NY and even as a child I looked forward to it every year. It was pools, fireworks and yummy grilled food (burgers, hot dogs, chicken, sausages- yum!)and I loved it. I miss those bbqs especially because I am over 400 miles from my family and now that my grandpa moved back to NY from FL they are having the bbq at my Aunt’s like they used to this year and I am going to miss it! :-(

Cookouts/BBQ’s are such a special time to gather family and friends and make precious memories. As a kid we always had cookouts on one spur of the moment, we would call a few people and before you knew it the whole yard was filled with laughter and smiling faces. Now as an adult I continue the tradition. Call the fam we are having a cookout!!!

I think my favorite memory was when I grilled for the first time by myself. I’ve still only done it about 3 times but learning how to stack up the coals, and get them to the right temperature before starting to grill…that’s work!

PS. We choose to charcoal grill because we love the flavor so much. We gave our gas grill away.

I’m in my fifties now, and both parents deceased…but my fondest memories of being raised on a farm in Indiana is every Saturday my dad would fire up the grill for chicken in the summer. And then we’d have a watermelon for desert that had been sitting under the shadetree all day. Memories….

A lot of good memories center around the grill. The most recent one… Just the other day, when my brother and his fiance were here, I started up the grill without removing the leaves that had fallen in. We had quite the fire going on. My husband handed me a squirt bottle of water. I squirted out the fire, then handed the bottle to my future sister in law. Within a matter of seconds, a water fight broke out.

More than a few years ago, I was trying to use a gas grill for the first time. I couldn’t get it to light and I was kind of bending over trying to peek under the burner when…you guessed it…the grill lit at the same moment a stiff little breeze blew my waist-length hair into the flame. Fortunately, I didn’t have any product in my hair so I just lost a little of it, but that one spot became frizzy that day and remains frizzy today.

I now have a grill with an electronic starter. :D

My most memorable BBQ moment was as child; not a good moment for me though. I remember my Dad made these burgers on the grill one weekend and they were the best, juiciest burgers I had ever had. Later, after the meal I found out they were made from Venison. I was devastated and cried like a baby. See it hadn’t been very long after I had watched the movie Bambie for the first time. It was forever before I would eat anything my Dad had cooked on the grill after that incident.

Funniest moment was shortly after we moved into our new house. My husband was trying to put some burgers and steaks on the grill. He turned on the gas and pressed the button to light the burners. When it didn’t light the first time, he continued pressing the button repeatedly until a huge fireball erupted and singed his eyebrows, eyelashes, and the hair on his arms!

My best grilling moment just happened a few weeks ago. I’d been away for three days, but had left a gorgeous piece of London Broil in my special marinade for nearly a week! When I got home and unpacked the truck, I grilled up the meat, made some mock mashed potatoes and finished up the half-bottle of organic wine I had left from my trip. My mom and I had the most lovely meal (albeit at about ten o’clock at night) and it was the best piece of meat either of us could remember having eaten!

We grill all the time and steak is one of my favorites to cook on the grill. Quite a few years ago, we were having family over for a barbeque. Wouldn’t you know it – the tank ran out of gas in the middle of cooking. We were quite embarassed and had to finish cooking the food in the oven. Now we make sure to check how much gas we have before having company over.

It wasn’t very funny then, but we laugh about it now…not long after marrying my husband of 35 years, we went camping and brought one of those small b-b-q grills that used charcoal…anyway, while my DH was preparing the “grill”, a Park Ranger stopped by to warn us about fire safety and the high risk of fire during the hot summer months…we chatted and he (the Ranger)went on his way, and when we turned our attention back to the grill, the flames were so high the tree branches above it had caught fire! We quickly doused the tree with water, all the while looking around to see if any one had noticed. We could have burned the place down! LOL

My favorite grilling moment is when I was in cub scouts, but dad was the cubmaster and we had a big whole pack father/son campout every year. We are talking about anywhere from 75-100 people. My dad had the great idea to have the Saturday night meal as turkey cooked on the grill. With that many people though, we had to get like 8 grills to make enough turkey for everyone.

When you mentioned mosquitos ruining the perfect cookout, it bought to mind that wasps would also fit in that category. We had no idea that there were wasps nests in the house shutters. Their swarms were an indication that the flying bombs seemed to love the smell of the beef and burgers we were grilling for our company. We were fortunate that none were seriously injured and no major property damage was substained in our haste to get far away from the flying stingers. Trampled steaks are still tasty after a bit of cleaning.

My sister came to visit last summer (she lives over 1500 miles from me – although she would tell you I live 1500 miles from HER) and I thought I would make bacon cheeseburgers. Not even thinking clearly, I decided it would be more practical to grill the bacon with the burgers. We live and learn, as the bacon dropped so much fat that the grill caught fire. Will, the drippings did but it covered the grill. What to do? I closed the grill, went inside for some more bacon (for the stove, this time) and accepted the fact that I added more fodder for the teasing wagon she carries with her. I knew better, I’m older than she is and have been cooking for decades. What was I thinking?

Best grilling recipe? Grilled Salmon: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Grilled-Salmon-I/Detail.aspx. It’s absolutely delicious!

We usually pair it with green beans and blueberries on the side – and it’s the perfect meal! Healthy, light, and perfectly filling.

My parents grill was set on their front porch and there was a little window in the living room that peered over the grill. Us kids use to go into giggle fits peaking out the window and watching dad grill – we’d bang on the window, make faces and do other silly childish things trying to distract him from his important job =)

    Best Grilling Moment-
I was grilling a couple of steaks about 12 years ago. Had them seasoned and cooking slow on the grill…the smell made its way down a few houses to a neighbor which I had never met before. She found her way to my backyard, asked if I needed some steak sauce, and we have been married since!!!

Right after I moved into my first house my friend and I were ripping paneling off the wall. We ran out grabbed some hamburger for dinner only to discover that all my kitchen stuff was packed in a POD in a warehouse. However we did have drywall knives! Maybe not the best meal but, good times.

Best grilling moment was grilling my favorite recipe–Thai style grilled chicken–for my entire sunday school class. The recipe is very labor intensive, requiring freshly crushed garlic and a rub that is smothered under and over the skin. I probably spent nearly 2 hours prepping. My efforts were rewarded and the chicken was amazing.

We all bring our old charcoal grills and we create a feast! Then, we have a taste test where we all try everyone’s dishes. My specialty is teriaki venison kabobs!

I have twins sons leroy and Ryan Cook I remember when they were about 7 and we BBQ outside they asked why are we doing this I said to celebrate the country so Ryan says well where are they and we need more meat. I said they are all over so he said to me I don’t think we have enough. I went into the house to bring out some salad when I came out Ryan and his twin brother had put all the meat on the grill and said mom I still don’t think this is enough we need to go to the grocery store even now we still laugh at them and they are going to be 16th on July 8th.

My best memory is during Ice Storm 2009 when we were without electric for 13 days and our homes are total electric here.

We ate good though because of the grill. My brother had to travel 2 hrs to get propane. A generator kept the freezers going but we had to cook food that was being defrosted as the fridges defosted quick before we could get gas for the generator as all the gas stations were without power too. We might have froze but we ate good due to the Grill!

My greatest grilling moment is one that I’ll never do again. I turned the gas on high and put the lid down thinking I would be able to burn off all the buildup on the rack. Well, about 7 minutes later I came out and put the chicken on the racks and it started flaming and the chicken immediately turned black on the outside. It took a long time for the flames to die down even after I turned them off. My husband will never let me forget that one.

My favorite (or worst…) grilling memory happened just after my husband and I got married. The grill was on the back porch and he went out and got it lit using a charcoal chimney. It was going good, lots of smoke coming out of the chimney. But there was one problem. He had forgotten to shut the windows on the back porch so all of that smoke was going into the house! The house smelled like smoke for days.

Accidental Jerky. Picked up some thin cut sirloin tip steak the other day thinking it would be enough for dinner on a weekday. Just finished scrubbing the inside of the grill to, and forgot to replace drip plate. Went inside for what seemed like a moment, stepped back out to check on it, and noticed that the grill had caught fire, and the meat had shrunk up to half its normal size. So I figured might as well make the best of it so I found a jerky recipe online, and brushed on some soy, brown sugar, and spices. Turned out preddy good as steak jerky i guess.

To be honest, I’m not the best griller. The best things I make are actually on my George Foreman grill. Maybe I’m afraid of the open flame!! But on the grill, I do make great potatoes that are sliced with onion, garlic, olive oil and wrapped in a tin foil pouch. They are yummy with steak.

My best grilling memory is of my husband “slaving” away to make dinner which consisted of grilled chicken breasts. Yep, just chicken breasts. He is famous for his TOTAL inability to cook. Once when someone was talking about men cooking my kids said the only thing their dad had ever cooked them was bacon sandwiches. Yep, bacon cooked in the microwave and then slapped on some bread. But it’s so sweet when he TRIES to cook me dinner by cooking something on the grill for me. So maybe this gift set would actually help him move beyond the chicken breasts, but if not at least I could grill myself up something nice. Thanks.

My ex has gone out in the middle of a blizzard to grill, nothing stopped him. Eating really great bbq with good friends when you can barely stay warm with the heat on and a fire blazing and tons of blankets with good friends is my best grilling memory.

best gilling moment wasn’t mine, my friend likes the hot sauce, he made burgers one day for all of us, when I started eating it i turned red and my sunglasses completely fogged up but for some reason my mouth wasn’t ‘on fire’, one of the best burgers i ever had….

My favorite grilling moment was the most recent time that my boyfriend (now fiancee grilled out). We have been renovating the kitchen for a whole year and it’s been completely unusable. We decided to grill out as our last celebratory meal without being able to use our kitchen and he made delicious cilantro and pacifico marinated garlic and lemon chicken! Now that we can use our kitchen again I’m still going to be craving things from the grill.

The grill is a centerpiece in our family. It gets used often for everything from simple burgers to fresh caught trout and sweet corn. Worst moment would be when the meat was half done, ran out of gas, no charcoal, and everything was closed (forgotten which holiday). We had to finish it in the oven …came out of course to hard and too dry …had to throw it away. Oh well ..now I always have a second tank on hand …ready to go.

My best grilling moment was when I was a child – I just came across a photograph that reminded me recently. My family moved around a lot and we had moved to a new town and still felt a bit awkward and uncomfortable. Then my Dad put a chef’s hat on my little brother and let him and me (the older sister) do the grilling ourselves! Everything turned out fine (despite my initial apprehension) and he was so proud of us!

When we were new parents 35 years ago we decided to cook a duck on a rotisserie with an electric motor. We had a bad storm and the electricity went out. We had to keep running outside in the rain to rotate the duck so it would cook evenly. We still laugh about this today.

as a little girl, remembering my dad and his brother making a permanent fireplace grill in our backyard. as a kid, i could’nt wait to have my hamburgers and hot dogs grilled!!! in what seemed like forever, they announced that they were finished. it was a work of art!!! as an adult, living here, (again), every time we fire up the grill, all the wonderful memories of my mom and dad, and our family as well as friends come back. this grill holds many memories for us. and it will stand foreever.

This year we have been grilling a lot more vegetables than usual. Fresh Jersey sweet corn grilled right in the husk is something that you will never forget once you’ve had it. We dip the corn in water before putting it on the grill, it isn’t pretty when the husk catches fire, though I have to admit it still tasted delicious. Be safe out there.

My finest grilling moment came when we set up a grill on the dock where we had a little boat. I brined then dry rubbed several chickens and set them upright on those “can” roasting things and put them on the grill. My favorite grilling moment was the first time I grilled out with my dad and boyfriend together. It’s amazing how much testosterone a grill can stir up. My best grilling moment would have to be this Father’s Day when my brothers and I bought my father a brand new grill. He had just gone through a divorce and his ex-wife had taken the grill the weekend before. He was depressed not only about the divorce, but about not being able to grill out with his kids on Father’s Day. So, the day before Father’s Day I went out and bought a bunch of food while my brothers picked up dad’s new grill and put it together. On Father’s Day he got to come downstairs to all of his kids standing next to his brand new grill and make the inaugural lighting.

My best grilling moment happened last summer. Funniest grilling moment has to be when I was in the kitchen washing dishes while my husband was lighting the grill outside. I looked out the window and POOF! My husband received a new smoker and of course had to use it right away. Put the sausage, turkey and roast in to smoke it. Ummmm…..somebody forgot to tell him that you don’t leave it in for hours, and hours. and hours. Its not happy sounds the meat is making its crys of anguish at the lost meat due to WAY overcooking. Think he is going to stick with the grill for most of the outdoor cooking now……

The funniest BBQ moment was when my die-hard husband was determined to grill some steaks despite hideous weather, so he moved the grill onto our front (wooden) porch kind of concealed from view. Apparently someone, thinking there was a fire, some called the fire department and they came roaring up the street.

I ran out to explain before they could axe the house down – and I thought at the very least we would be cited and fined. But these guys had a great sense of humor and started hollering things like: “Make mine rare!” It was a real hoot and we ended up making a bunch of burgers for them.

my best moments in grilling were as a kid. my cousin built a brick barbeque pit for my Mom and we kids would play chase and ring-a-round-the-rosy
because we were told that it would cook faster if we kept moving!(we obviously were out of their way that way.)

My best grilling moment is the 4th of July. Our son is in the Army and for the last few years he has been overseas, the last tour was Afghanistan. He loves to grill and my dad had taught him his secret to making the perfect hamburgers. I loved seeing him at the grill this year making the secret hamburgers and knowing that he was here to stay!

My family LOVES steak! We went to my sisters house to have a barbeque together. My sister was lighting her gas grill when all of the sudden we heard this “boom”. My sister had gotten her bangs and eyebrows singed(sp?)It was scary and afterwards the best BBQ story for family gatherings.

My memory of summer fun and bbq is when my mother taught me how to bbq. Its not typical gender roles but in our family mom does the yard work and the outdoor cooking. She’s been teaching me how to grill since I was about 6 years old. My ADD has led to a number of burned steaks over the years but now I’m a master griller.

My favorite grilling moment just happened on Memorial Day. Its always great when we can all get together, my grandmother the “matriarch” of the family, my immediate family, and my dad’s siblings (one of whom has had schizophrenia since he was young, so family events are an integral part of his well being) with their families. Cooking is always crazy, and on Memorial Day when we were done making all of the kabobs from the big family assembly line table we had set up, we put everything that was left over (some shrimp, chicken, little cut up pieces of steak and some veggies and pineapple) into a big metal thing with holes in it (see how far my grilling knowledge goes?) and dumped marinade and spices onto it. Wouldn’t you know it–best thing I have ever had off the grill!

The most memorable, is when my husband had to buy this huge charcoal grill, the lid was really heavy and I am short. I would try to hold it, but normally I would get it so far and I would be over the coals, and it would sorta bounce. Well, one day I had marinated a bunch of chicken and went to check on them and I lifted the lid, it was super hot and I let go of the lid and over it went with all the chicken, charcoal and all! That was the last time we used that grill.

DH wanted a big fancy shmancy grill, so one day out on the patio, there it was. So excited was he that he lit it up, put on some steaks when we smelled a horrible smell. It kept getting worse. We sat down to eat and couldn’t because the smell was in the food, but it wasn’t the food. As it turned out there was a removable instructional laminate on the inside of the cover, but DH did not know to remove it and it melted into the stainless steel never to be removed. After a few lightings and airings out, the smell finally left the grill.

My best grilling moment was the one and only time my son had invited a high school friend over the night I was grilling. His friend loved ribs, so that was what I was making, when all of a sudden for some reason, the flames took over the ribs until they were unrecognizable…I mean charred totally black, and inedible! We had to order a pizza that night!

I’d have to say my best “Grilling Moment!” was waaay back “in the day” when I first figured out that I could marinate meat in a zip-lock baggie AND use a minimum of marinade as long as the bag gets moved around every once in awhile…

My favorite grilling moments have all occurred on the 4th of July, and my particular favorite was the time when I was around six and first old enough to appreciate surprises, that my mom and dad made a special treat for the partygoers: banana boats, in which they filled a sliced banana with chocolate and marshmallows, wrapped them in foil, put them on the grill, and made us a delicious and unexpected treat. Ever since then banana boats became a family tradition at cookouts, one that holds 25 years later. Thanks for the giveaway!

I was grilling outside the first apartment my wife and I shared. We were on the ground floor of the complex, and it was sprinkling outside. So I moved the grill under the upstairs apartment balcony. The grill would not light originally, so I gave it a few seconds, used a match, and *boom* – a fireball threw me into the bushes. I made jalapeno steak skewers and they were a giant hit! It was hard for him to relinquish control… but, it was worth it ;-)

When I grill baby-back ribs, I begin by rubbing the racks with yellow mustard and adding cracked black pepper and sea salt. Next rap the racks tightly in saran wrap followed by aluminum foil and place racks in a shallow pan in 275 degree oven. I slide a pan of water on the bottom rack for added tenderness. Next start the smoker and pop the top on a cold drink…put the ribs on the grill/smoker – and then at the end I baste them babies with some awesome BBQ sauce…FALL OFF THE BONE YUMMY!!

My favorite grilling moment is my Dad cooking steaks and burgers on the grill at a family gathering, the heat is too high and he had the lid closed. When he opened the lid, smoke comes bellowing out and he’s standing there flipping burgers and steaks and you can’t see his head. I have a great photo of that moment, too. He couldn’t figure out what was so funny until he saw the photo.

I used to always overcook everything I put on the grill so I had my husband do the important stuff like steaks. But then he started working longer hours and coming home at different times every night. I got frustrated waiting for him to get home to cook dinner. Finally I decided to just try myself. And after watching him for so long, I used all of his techniques, and it worked! Success! Now I’m a master griller and don’t even let him near it!

We don’t usually do a lot of bbq since we’ve lived in a townhouse for so long. We just recently moved into our own house with a backyard and its nice to have a place to set up a bbq. So we’re just now setting up new memories of weekend bbqs.

I love grilled steak or great hamburgers. One fun grilling memory is when I hosted a family party, based on the theme of build your own burger. I sat out a ton of different items to put on the buns. My eldest daughterr was 5 at the time, and she had a ball stacking all of the lettuces, onions, tomatoes, pickles, cheese, condiments etc. on the bun. Then she bit into it and made the strangest face. Something was missing. The hamburger!

My best grilling moment was the first time we used a gas grill. We had just used the little $30 grills for years. We finally got a big grill (gas) on clearance for $9. A grill was just something we did not want to spend to much money on.

We made burgers and hot dogs.

My wildest BBQ memories are from when I was in college and roomed at a boarding house with an 83 year old woman. We all shared a kitchen, and she restricted our access to the kitchen to certain hours or when she was home because she locked the kitchen doors all other times (and this was in the days before everyone had a microwave or a hot plate). We had this little wide ledge just outside our windows that was about 18 inches wide, and if I wanted to cook when she was out or later at night after she went to bed (at 7:30 p.m.), then I had a system rigged where I would put charcoal into a 9×13 cast iron pan that I sat on a wide slab of a granite cutting board out on the ledge. I’d light it up and put a grill shelf from a small BBQ grill that I got at a thrift shop (just the grill shelf, not the whole grill), and we’d have burgers, hot dogs, and anything else we could cook on our little grill – including grilled cheese cooked on tin foil sheets on top of the grill shelf. When you’re young, illicit food tastes fabulous!

My most memorable grilling moment happened recently. My husband and I grilled steaks and thought we were done. We turned off the grill and went inside. We saw smoke cover our back porch and realized the grill had caught on fire and was not going out. After we pulled the grill out in to the yard and hosed our grill down the fire finally went out.

My husband left me to grilling one day and boy did I grill. I threw the steaks on the grill and thought boy this is gonna be great. 10 minutes later I realize the grill isn’t even hot, and I had forgotten to turn on the gas. Then, once I got it going, I made the fatal mistake of walking away from the grill for too long, ended up having it on too high, and burning them to char. Thus to say we had takeout that night…. and I have since never touched the grill on orders from my husband :)

We love to BBQ. Everything tastes so much better grilled. We had a big BBQ for my father-in-law, on Father’s Day, a few years ago. We furnished the meat and everyone that came brought a dish. My sister-in-law made him a huge Father’s Day cake. It was a nice get together for everybody. This would be nice to win, we could have another nice get-together. Thanks for having the contest!

Thank goodness I don’t have a flaming head immortalized. Actually we haven’t had too many miscues with our grilling.
Our favorite marinade is a combination of olive oil, soy sauce and lemon juice. Let the steaks or chicken marinade for an hour or two then grill and they are so good.

My best grilling moment was when I was with a friend of mine and we were grilling out with her boyfriend and his twin brother. They were making fun of us saying we couldn’t grill and how only men can do it. So we made steaks anyway. They tasted them and the look on their faces was priceless. Little did they know we were grilling out like twice a week.
