“Mom, can you put that cool music on?” my 4 1/2 year old son Kyle asked as we got into the car. So I did.
The “cool music” that he was asking me to play is Ziggy Marley’s Family Time CD. Ever since we received the CD a few weeks ago, it’s been in constant rotation in our car.
I generally like to play children’s music when we’re in the car (which is an increasing amount of time as my school-age daughter gets busier and busier).
This is not children’s music. This is good music that will appeal to children (and adults alike). This video below for Family Time is probably the most “kiddish” songs on the CD. There are others that I just love and can’t stop singing, from the laid back “I Love You, Too” (I love you, too; I love you, too. I love you. . . . ) to the upbeat “Wings of an Eagle.” I’m even adding them to my own ipod playlist.
To get an even bigger taste of this music, in addition to watching that video, amazon offers a free download of Walk Tall (featuring Paul Simon). Other all-stars who appear on this CD include Willie Nelson, Laurie Berkner and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Jamie Lee Curtis offers two spoken pieces: a short poem, and a reading of her book Is There Really a Human Race?. Kyle has been telling me to skip over these pieces, but there are other times when he’s really enjoyed story CDs, so I think that this is a great addition to the songs.
I think that CDs (songs or audiobooks) are great gifts for preschoolers. It’s often something that they don’t have, and you might be introducing a fellow mom to some little car-time sanity.

I have had way too much fun listening to the sample songs and I would love to enter. Kev and I LOVE Jamaica, Reggae music and the amazing Marley family. They are so talented. We have vacationed in Jamaica for the past 3 years and the love there is amazing.

What a lovely giveaway! My granddaughters are big fans of reggae music. When my first granddaughter was an infant and swinging in her little swing, my daughter would be playing Bob Marley’s music, and she would just smile and swing her little feet to the music. I now have two granddaughters who just love the music..They dance around and it really makes them so happy. I’d love to win this for them!

I’ve seen him in concert.. sort of. My sister passed out from heat exhaustion/stroke while we were waiting for him to come out on stage… so we got to listen to him from the ambulance off to the side of the concert. lol

OMG…I’m grooving to just the samples! Imagining the actual CD singing in my player would be a dream come true.
As a nanny who spends a lot of time shuttling kids around I really appreciate good music that both kids and adults can enjoy. So many kids cd’s are really not so fun for adults to listen to…and you have to be careful sometimes about adult cd’s (things you wouldn’t necessarily think of as bad can bring up awkward questions)!! Would love a chance to win this!!
