CozyWedge – A Safer Alternative to a Traditional Crib Bumper

When I was pregnant with my first child, I worked right around the corner from Babies R’ Us. I would go there almost once a week, spend a small fortune on baby clothes that I just had to have and drool over all of the gorgeous cribs and beautiful bedding.

The bedding set that I finally chose had such an adorable baby bumper adorned with butterflies. I loved the crib bumper and the extra touch it added to my daughter’s room.

Oddly enough, I never thought twice about the risks of using a traditional baby bumper. I just assumed, since they came with every bedding set, that they were safe.

I was wrong. Baby bumper pads are not recommended by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) or by the American Academy of Pediatrics for reasons of safety. They do pose a hazard, and sadly, accidental deaths have been attributed to baby bumper pads. These deaths have occurred due to the following:

  • Positional asphyxiation – The infant is positioned with its face pressed against the pad.
  • “Wedging” – The infant pushes its head between the bumper pad and mattress or similar object
  • Mechanical Strangulation – The strings attached to the bumper pads become entangled around the infant’s neck

So what is one to do? We want to provide something soft around the bars of the crib, add a little touch of decor, protect little limbs from getting stuck and keep those pacifiers inside at all times. But we also want to keep our precious babies safe.

Well, CozyWedge is the answer.

The Cozywedge bumper consists of foam wedge inserts and 100% organic cotton slipcovers. It fits snugly around the crib, won’t slip down and is easy to remove for sheet changing.

Made with shock-absorbing foam, (think swimming noodles) CozyWedge will not compress when baby rolls against it, so it does not form a pocket around the baby’s mouth and nose.

It is nonabsorbent, CFC-free and odorless.

Its height of two and a half inches allows for an unobstructed view of the insides of the crib and a free circulation of air in and around the crib.

When your curious baby begins to pull himself up, its low profile will not give him enough of a boost to escape from the crib.

CozyWedge bumpers come in eight solid colors, from blue to avocado, making it easy to compliment your existing bedding. The slipcovers are easy to remove and machine washable.

I put my CozyWedge bumper in my baby boy’s crib this past weekend. Before receiving it, he was sleeping without any bumper, which meant I was up several times in one night due to a pacifier prison break.

I love that the CozyWedge bumper is safe, provides him with a cushion and is easy to take in and out of his crib. It sure makes those crib sheet changes a breeze.

    That is awesome. I have never used the bumpers due to the safety concerns, and my first two loved to stick their little limbs through the bars, and sometimes getting them stuck. I would love a set of these for my third little angel, and will purchase a set if I don’t win. I have three though, it would be better if you just give me some! :)

    Oh my,my niece has a brand new baby (born January 27th) and I’m sure she doesn’t have the CozyWedge-she probably uses the standard bumper pads, now I’m worried.     What a fabulous idea! I did not use bumpers with my first child because of the risks, but I didn’t like the idea of his hands or feet sticking out either.
